Subject:       Release of Personally Identifiable Information

Dear Crystal Pond Homeowner,

Recently, owners have received solicitations for money from local Windham community organizations and political action groups. Your Crystal Pond Board does not supply, rent or sell unit-owner information to any community / civic group, or homeowner. We pride ourselves in protecting your right to privacy.

NYS Atty. General’s Advisories: Besides a general desire for personal privacy and to be “left alone,” there are very legitimate reasons why people act to decrease the personal information easily accessible about them.  In this age where identity theft is of major concern for all of us, our New York State Attorney General admonishes organizations not to release any personally identifiable information without first asking each person if they wish to opt out of such release.

Personally identifiable information (“PII“) is information about you, such as your name, address, phone number that someone could use to identify or locate you.

As our AG states, “Besides a general desire for personal privacy and to be “left alone,” there are very legitimate reasons why people act to decrease the personal information easily accessible about them.

The fastest growing financial crime in the nation — “identity theft” — is one important reason. Identity theft is when someone uses your personal identification information, such as your credit card number or social security number, to obtain something of value.

It takes very little to have your identity stolen. Only a few pieces of information can give a thief the ability to, for example, get a credit card in your name and leave you to deal with the bills.”

Our Tax Collector, Dawn Hitchcock at Windham Town Hall in Hensonville has been advised of the local group money solicitations to our unit-owners and consulted on this important privacy matter. Homeowner information is “public information,” however, the Tax Assessor’s office would consider not releasing homeowner personal information, if they had a request-statement from the homeowner not to release it.

Crystal Pond unit-owners have also asked your Crystal Pond Board of Managers for your Personal Identifiable Information in the past. We are sending this “opt out/ opt in” release document to you, asking what you wish to do when such a request for your personal information is received.  If we do not receive your decision to “opt in”, we will not release your Personally Identifiable Information. Thank you.
